“NCS RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS [COVID-19]

Last Updated: 07/04/2020

To our NCS Community,

As we welcome in another week under lockdown guidelines, we hope you are all staying safe and staying indoors.

It is with that in mind, that we – alongside the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) – have made the difficult decision to repurpose our summer programme planned for June, July and August. Refund options will be offered to all participants who have signed up for the Summer 2020 programme to date.

We know that this will be very disappointing to you all but given the uncertainty of this time, and the importance of social distancing, the programme – in its traditional format – is not possible. We must instead focus on helping the containment of coronavirus and safeguarding the health of everyone.

We are however working with the DCMS and our partners to create an alternate free NCS Summer 2020 experience including:

STAYING CONNECTED: Launching soon across all NCS channels, our digital hub focussing on skills and life lessons not learnt in the classroom, based on elements of our traditional programme; Be Epic, Live Life, Do Good and Go Party.

KEEP DOING GOOD: Creating a motivated and inspired group of those signed up for Summer 2020, NCS grads and alumni, who are ready to volunteer and help the country get back on its feet once lockdown has been lifted, and we are in a safe position to restore and reconstruct our society and begin adapting to a new normal.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative for us to adopt our No We Can attitude and make this summer one to remember. It may be in a different way than anticipated, but we are committed to our vision of bringing young people together as connected, confident, and caring citizens.

MOVING FORWARDS: If you were expecting to take part this summer, you will have the option to either:

  1. Receive a full refund
  2. Donate your fee to The Mix the UK’s leading support service for young people.
  3. Attend Autumn Programme 2020
  4. Attend Summer Programme 2021

For the moment, you do not need to do anything. We will get in contact with you in the next few weeks about selecting the right eligible option for you.

In the meantime you can find a number of useful resources and information below to ensure you stay safe and well through these times. And, you can head to our Media Centre to read the full press release.”
