Short description about what you did after school: I left school trained as a welder. I went into security where I spent 15yrs working all over the country, ended up working in CCTV for greater Manchester police. Then completed changed career and trained to be a gas and electric engineer and never looked back.

Short description about what you did after school: After school I attended New College where I studied Psychology and AVCE in IT, during this time I obtained a part time job and PC World. After college I stayed on at PC World where I became an assistant manager. Between 2004 and 2007 I had three children whilst working at PC World and in 2008 I decided to leave and attend The University of Huddersfield to start a career in Children’s Nursing. Due to the long delay attending university post college I had to complete a foundation year prior to starting my three-year degree course. In 2013 I obtained my BSC in Children’s Nursing and commenced a full-time job at Leeds Paediatric Intensive Care. Since this time, I have taken every opportunity to progress and now specialise in Critical Care for children and young people. This has led me to my current position as a Senior Sister. I am currently working towards my next qualification as a ECMO nurse specialist.

I then moved to another local business as an administrative assistant. I had my first child and then decided I wanted to be a nurse. I have since completed numerous university courses at both Huddersfield and Leeds Beckett where I have studied, independent prescribing, community specialist practitioner and a managing minor illness course.

After a couple of jobs I started a career as a support worker in care as a support worker working for adults with LD/ PD, I progressed through to various management roles including CQC registered manger/ area manager. Eventually moving onto commissioning adult social care services for the local government.

I relocated to Ripon in North Yorkshire after meeting my fiancé and we now have two children. I work as a practice nurse at my local GP practice.

I then went on to Leeds University to study criminology and criminal justice which I thoroughly enjoyed. I eventually got a job at Kirklees Council as a front-line practitioner in the family group conferences team and the year later became a manager in the service which I am still doing now and thoroughly enjoying.

Short description about what you did after school: I left All Saints and went to Greenhead where I completed my A Levels. After that, I did what many of us do and tried a bit of everything; I worked in a bar, worked in a corporate office and even spent some time taking 999 calls which all definitely built character. Eventually I re-entered education in 2019 and went to Huddersfield University to study English Language and Linguistics, during which I ended up spending a year studying from home due to Covid. In 2022 I undertook a PGCE and spent a couple of years teaching in a secondary school before moving into Further Education, where I am now teaching English at Kirklees College. I got married earlier in 2025, I live in Halifax with my wife and still love spending time with my two best friends that I met all those years ago in Mrs Steadman’s biology class!!

Short description about what you did after school: After undergoing major heart surgery halfway through my time at All Saints, I missed nearly a year of school. Thanks to the incredible support from my teachers and learning support assistants, I was able to catch up and successfully pass my Maths and English. With these qualifications, I went on to study Level 3 Childcare and Education at college, where I represented the entire childcare department on the Student Council in my second year. Alongside my studies, I volunteered in a primary school as a teaching assistant throughout both years of college, which strengthened my passion for working with children. When I finished college, I began working at a small private day nursery, where I was proud to be named runner-up for Staff of the Year after just six months. I then joined a community nursery in a disadvantaged area, and within six months, I was promoted to Deputy Manager. Currently, I work as a Learning Support Assistant at Huddersfield Grammar School, where I am also the Speech and Language Therapy Lead. I have completed training with Leeds Teaching Hospital to screen for speech and language needs, as well as numerous other professional development courses.

Short description about what you did after school: After finishing school, I’ve built a strong foundation of customer service and leadership experience through various roles in hospitality and retail. I worked in several fast-paced environments, including positions such as Bar Supervisor at McCafferty’s Bar and Restaurant and Senior Front of House at Oldgate Bar and Restaurant, where I developed exceptional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. My earlier experience at places like JD Wetherspoons and Asda also helped me strengthen my ability to stay composed under pressure and deliver excellent service to diverse customers.
